Author Recommends: NYT Bestseller Maya Banks Shares Her Top Historical Romances
As an author, I’m often asked who my favorite authors are or what my favorite books are, and that’s always a hard question because I love so many authors and books and my favorites can change depending on my current mood and what I want to read at any given time.
I have what I call my “comfort” reads, and these are books that I read again and again and often fall back on them when I’m craving something I know I’ll love as opposed to trying a new to me author or book and I’m not certain whether it will hit all my reader buttons.
And since I released my new Scottish historical this week, Highlander Most Wanted (now available at Amazon, B&N, and more), I thought I’d focus this particular recommendation piece on historicals since most of my comfort reads fall in the contemporary category.
And I have to throw in the very first historical I EVER read (we won’t talk about how many years ago that was!) and I haven’t gone back to read it in my later years to see if it still holds up, but when I was very young (not even a teenager yet!) the first historical I read and loved was Wild Hearts by Virginia Henley. I read it with wide eyes and it opened the door to countless other romances when before I’d only been reading category romance from the various Harlequin lines.
Another historical romance that I loved was Arnette Lamb’s True Heart. It was so poignant and emotional. I loved the hero’s devotion to finding the heroine and that he remained true to her for so many years that she was missing. And that he never gave up hope of finding her. *happy sigh*
This is kind of cheating, but I can’t pick just ONE, so I’ll do a blanket recommendation of Teresa Medeiros’ historicals because I love so many of them!
What are some of your favorite historical romances of all time?
