The Lies We Tell – When Passion Lies
What lies have you told lately?
Let’s face it. Everyone lies. Despite the fact that our mothers told us not to, the truth is that Everyone. Lies. And that’s true even when there’s love. Even when there’s mind-numbing, bone-deep, center-of-my-world passion. Somewhere, at the core of it all, there are the little lies. And maybe even the big ones.
Yeah, I’m coming straight home after work.
No, I do. I love your casserole!
That dress absolutely does not make you look fat. (Okay, I’m hoping that one’s not a lie.)
And then there are the bigger lies. The ones we hope never come into our own lives. Lies like It’s over. I don’t love you anymore, and Another man has my heart now.
Now, we may not want those kinds of lies in our life, but there’s no denying that they make for some great story possibilities. And when I realized that it was exactly those kind of lies that were bubbling up between Caris (a rare vampire-werewolf hybrid) and Tiberius, a powerful vampire with a deep-seated hatred of the werens, I knew that meant some great potential for friction. And we all know that friction generates heat, right?
I got to explore the underpinnings of that heat in Shadow Keepers: Midnight, a novella that tells how Caris and Tiberius first met, and explores the depth of their passion for each other. How it sparked, how it grew, and how its intensity will push them on toward the future.
But Midnight was set centuries ago (that’s part of the fun about writing vampire stories…the characters get to have such rich and long histories!), and Passion is modern day.
What happened between then and now?
That’s the question around which When Passion Lies evolved. How did an epic love go horribly wrong…and despite the lies—and even the truths—can the characters get back on solid ground?
There’s passion between them, no doubt about that. But is there a future? And if so, how will these two strong-willed characters find their way into it?
I loved writing this book and spending time with Caris and Tiberius! I hope you pick up a copy of When Passion Lies and spend some time with them, too.
What lies slide into your daily life? (My big one today: yes, I *totally* want to spend the weekend traipsing between kid activities!). Which team are you on: vampire or werewolf? What is it about vamps and/or werens that intrigues you?
