Happy Release Day! Believing the Truth by Elisabeth Barrett + 5 copy Giveaway!
People sometimes tell me I have beautiful hair (thanks, Sue G!) but I never believe them. Having grown up with straight hair in a family where everyone else had gorgeous, wavy, thick hair, I’ve had a (hair) complex for years. How can hair be beautiful if it’s not wavy and lustrous? In my mind, the answer is: it can’t.
Have you ever been told something about yourself is true over and over again, but can’t bring yourself to believe it?
The hero in my latest release, Long Simmering Spring (which comes out today!) has the same issue.
Cole Grayson is Star Harbor’s tortured, but oh-so-hot sheriff. As a high-schooler, Cole was the ultimate bad boy, indulging in pranks, drinking, girls . . . you name it, he did it. He tried to make amends for his past by joining the army and then becoming a cop. Now he’s a good man—a hero in the true sense of the word—but on the way to redemption he picked up a few scars, both physical and mental. Cole spends most of his time protecting the folks in Star Harbor, proving day in and day out that he’s changed for the better. The only problem is that he doesn’t believe it himself.
Enter a blast from his past—good girl Julie Kensington, who’s now the town’s doctor. Back in high school, she and Cole were in very different social circles, but now she can’t deny that she’s interested in this haunted man who’s dedicated his life to serving his country and protecting his community. It’s up to Julie to show him how much he’s changed and to help him overcome his past and face the future . . . with her.
There were times while I was writing this book that I wanted to shake Cole. I wanted to tell him to buck up because there were people who loved him and who were waiting to help him overcome his wounds. But then I had to cut him some slack. Because I realize that what Cole experiences with the not-quite-believing-it’s-true doesn’t just happen to heroes. It happens to us mere mortals, too.
To thank you all for joining me for release day, I’m doing a giveaway of NetGalley copy previews of Long Simmering Spring. All you have to do is to leave a comment answering this question: What do people tell you about yourself that you don’t quite believe? Why?
