How The Autumn Review was Born
Please join me in welcoming our blog guest The Autumn Review. A fast growing site that delivers honest reviews – enjoy!
I fell in love with reading when I was a child. I loved all the magical places the stories would take me. It’s been no different for me as an adult. A few years ago, I met anauthor who suggested I begin writing reviews and create a blog. So in the fall of 2011, The Autumn Review was born.
Before I even started blogging, I was reading about a book per day. I’m a stay at home mom, so I have the flexibility to be able to read throughout the day. Once the blog took off, I was able to meet new authors that I may have never found without the blog. It also helped that I found similar blogs to form friendships with. Those friendships are so precious to me and I can’t imagine my days without these women in my life. Becoming active in the book community has been a pleasure and a key in understanding what readers are looking for.
Then, about a year after The Autumn Review was created, I decided that I wanted to create an Adult only blog that featured more “mature” novels; that’s how Autumn After Dark began. My focus remains on The Autumn Review, but Autumn After Dark has been a lot of fun to “play around” with. I’ve also found some wonderful new to me Adult Authors through Autumn After Dark.
In addition to remaining active on my blogs and in the community, I also worked with a blog tour group. Through that experience, I learned how to successfully organize blog tours and promotions. I worked with that group for a few years and gained an enormous amount of perspective on Author/Blogger relationships, as well as Blogger/Reader relationships. As a result of my experience with that group, I decided I wanted to give Authors a little bit more and formed Wordsmith Publicity with my friend and fellow blogger, Andrea Thompson from The Bookish Babe.
The most rewarding thing about becoming a blogger is the relationships I’ve developed along the way. I’ve met some truly incredible writers, some of whom I’m privileged to call friends. I’ve been a beta reader, content editor and proofreader throughout the writing process for some of them. Being a part of a book from the beginning is one of the most amazing experiences I’ve had.
There isn’t a day that goes by that I’m not grateful to be a member of the book community. It’s such a comfort to know that there are other people that share the same passion for reading as I do. My hope is that I can continue to find books that captivate reader’s season after season!
