If Children’s Classics Tackled Dating – ARE YOU MY BOYFRIEND? by C.B. Bryza

Take the children’s classic Are You My Mother?, swap out the baby bird on a search for his mama with a young, independent woman on a search for a boyfriend, and you have the new parody ARE YOU MY BOYFRIEND? by C.B. Bryza, illustrated by Simon Greiner. It has the perfect children’s book look and feel–paper over board, short prose, fun retro-inspired illustration–but flips the script by following the young woman as she goes from libraries to parks, clubs to bars, asking the men in her life, “Are you my boyfriend?”

Make sure you keep this one away from the kiddies, very much the same way you might keep the now-classic Go the F*** to Sleep tucked away on your nightstand instead of on a shelf next to Goodnight, Moon. Besides, you really don’t want to answer the question “Mom, what does ‘emotionally unavailable’ mean?” until they’re at least a little older.

Gallery Books provided us with a few pages from ARE YOU MY BOYFRIEND, highlighting just a few of the men that the young woman comes across in her search for the perfect guy. Seen them before? Let us know what types of men you’ve come across on the dating scene that are parody-worthy (read as: cringe-inducing).
