Loveswept Classic Release, A Hint of Mischief by Katie Rose + 2 eBook giveaway!!
I am thrilled that the Appleton series is getting a new life as part of Random’s Loveswept line.
A HINT OF MISCHIEF was one of my favorite books. Set in Victorian New York, the series is about three women who were orphaned and living with their sweet Aunt Eve in a spooky old mansion. It is clever Jennifer Appleton who comes up with the idea of practicing spiritualism in order to obtain much-needed money. They are charlatans, but charming women who offer hope and counsel to grieving widows who lost loved ones in the war. Jennifer, with her eyes closed, would consult a crystal ball while Winifred and Penelope knocked on the walls and played a harpsichord upstairs to make it seem as if spirits were indeed in attendance.
Unfortunately, the hero Gabriel Forester sees Jennifer as a swindler, and is infuriated when he discovers his grieving mother is one of her clients. Sparks fly between them as Gabriel intends to stop this conniving woman, and Jennifer fights the attraction that blossoms between them. . .
A young man strode into the parlor. Penelope gasped, and then looked again with renewed interest, while Winifred surveyed the new arrival shrewdly. Jennifer spun to face him, outraged, but something about his manner kept her from giving him a well-deserved dressing down.
His gaze swept across the four women.
“Sir, what is the meaning of this?” Aunt Eve asked sharply.
The man ignored her, turning intuitively to the woman he sought. “Which one of you is Miss Jennifer Appleton?” He demanded, although he was already staring right at her.
“I…” Her voice quavered. Somehow she managed to squeak, “I am Jennifer.”
He slammed a fist down on the table. Jennifer jumped, her heart her throat. She glanced at Aunt Eve, but thankfully, her aunt seemed more bewildered than anything else. Her gaze swung back to Gabriel. Although she was terrified, a part of her was also fascinated. It didn’t escape her notice that Gabriel was extraordinarily handsome, almost angelic. He had dark wavy hair, and an astonishing face, a firm chin, a classic nose, and an incredibly sensuous mouth.
Yet he was also coldly furious. His beautiful blue eyes blazed, and his jaw was as tight as the harp string. So magnificent was his rage that even fearless Jennifer had trouble responding. He seemed to be fighting to control his anger, and Jennifer prayed he would be successful.…
I hope you enjoy A HINT OF MISCHIEF as much as I enjoyed writing the Appleton’s story . Winifred’s book comes next in COURTING TROUBLE, and finally Penelope’s story comes to life in a Christmas tale, MISTLETOE AND MAGIC.
So now I’d love to hear from you. Have you ever had a psychic experience? What was it like?
