Secrets . . . . a guest post from Lisa Renee Jones + $20 Victoria’s Secret Gift Card Giveaway
Today I’m celebrating the 2nd novella connected to the series, Rebecca’s Lost Journals: The Contract. Release weeks are always fun so thank you for celebrating with me!
My theme for this blog is ‘secrets’ because my Inside Out Trilogy is all about secrets and because I have one about the series I’m bursting to share but not to tell yet.
Some of my favorite books are wrapped around secrets though I admit to getting frustrated when the characters keep the secrets when it’s way past time they still spill the beans. This is a fast way to make me scream at my book, as if the characters can hear me, and will do as I say. But when secrets are done well they can make a series absolutely addictive. For me, the perfect example of this is Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series. The secrets in that series drove me crazy in an addictive, have to read more, wonderful kind of way. Everything was revealed at just the right time. Fever is one of my all time favorite series.
I’m not a huge fan of the ‘I’ve been sent to kill you and now I am falling in love with you’ storyline. Preparing to kill someone is certainly a huge secret but not my favorite kind. What makes the Fever series appealing to me is that the secrets are all things that are deeply personal to the main characters and those characters are emotionally invested what those secrets mean to them long before we ever get to know them or they get to know each other. In my opinion, secrets, like characters, are better served with emotional depth.
So since I’ve got a secret, and we’re talking about secrets, tell me your favorite romance with a secret in the storyline for a chance to win a $20 Victoria Secrets gift card….because you know Victoria always has a secret:)
