In the mood for a vampire love story? Look no further: Tilda Swinton (love her!) and Tom Hiddleton star in Only Lovers Left Alive, the latest movie by Jim Jarmusch (Night on Earth): Set against the romantic desolation of Detroit and Tangier, an underground musician, deeply depressed by the direction of human activities, reunites with his resilient and enigmatic lover. Their love story has already endured several centuries at least, but now they have to deal with the arrival of her wild and uncontrollable younger sister. Can these “wise but fragile outsiders” continue to survive as the modern world collapses around them? If you see Only Lovers Left Alive this weekend, let us know what you think!
This weekend I plan to re-watch one of my favorite movies, The Deep End. When it was in theaters back in 2001, the studio promoted it as a thriller. But the best thing about this movie is the scorching unconventional romance (and scorching chemistry!) between Tilda Swinton and Goran Visnjic. She’s a lonely military wife and mother, holding down the household while her husband is away at sea. When her teenage son gets himself into a terrible situation, she finds herself blackmailed. Goran is the bad guy — but ladies, if this is bad, I don’t want to be good!
