What if you were born with magic in your blood? + giveaway!
So what if you had magic in your blood? How would that change your life? I hope you enjoy Erin’s post – Happy Romance!
A huge thank you to Romance At Random for hosting me here today. And thank you to readers for stopping by. I’m giving away a copy of my upcoming release, Fire Kissed, to a reader who tells me what kind of special ability they’d have if they had magic in their blood. For example, would you wield fire, or fly, or read minds, know the future, etc? And would you skew more hero or villain?
I’ll start: As a kid I used to fantasize (at length) about having some sort of special ability. (I’m the one wearing glasses, staring out the classroom window, oblivious to the snicker of the kid next to me.) If I did have a super ability based on my nature, it would have to be imagination-oriented, like visions of the future. Of course, that’s not what I’d want—I’d want fire or the ability to fly—something spectacular. It took until adulthood to realize that I would end up, well, not exactly the villain (I’m only a little bad), but definitely someone that needs to be put away for my own safety and the safety of others.
As a writer, I get to be both hero and villain. And I get to roll with my power of choice—I’ve been going with Fire lately. Not only is it fun to play with, but it’s also… hot. As a romance writer of the dark and steamy, heat is key. It takes a particular kind of heroine to wield fire (no fainting damsels here)—someone with a temper. And it takes a certain hero to match her—someone with cold, hard reason (well, at first—fire is catching). Meet Kaye Brand and Jack Bastian. Kaye was born with fire in her blood, and Jack is the man who hires her to use it for a cause. It doesn’t turn out the way either of them hopes.
But then, that’s the way it goes with special abilities. I’m not one to call a power a curse (‘cause the nerd in me still thinks powers are cool). But there is a personal price, usually a big one. In my case, I’m sure a special ability would lead to insanity (of the gleeful variety). I’ve been practicing my maniacal laughter, just in case.
I’ve spilled. Now it’s your turn. What special power would you have? Comment below to win – good luck!
About the book, Fire Kissed:
It is Kaye Brand’s power to wield. But outcast from her kind, she’s been selling herself to the highest bidder – money for her survival in exchange for a magic glimpse into the flames of the future.
One of the angelic Order, Jack Bastian has no use for a female like Kaye, as provocative and unexpected as her blazing beauty. Yet he has no choice but to hire her to uncover the secrets of his sworn enemy and her former fiance, Ferrol Grey.
War is inevitable between the defenders of the Order and the mage Houses who threaten to engulf the world in Shadow. For Jack, mage-born Kaye is off limits, no matter how hot the impossible attraction between them. But in the coming darkness, beset by danger and desire, everything is about to change…
