Why I write historical romance? Why do you read it? by Wendy Vella + Giveaway!
I’m often asked why I write about the Regency and Victorian eras and I always say it was never an option after picking up my first Georgette Heyer novel as I was smitten from the first page.
It’s a time that no one alive today has ever experienced, therefore you really are only limited by your imagination. I always make sure that any events or characters I use are accurate; however you can build a world that comes to life on the page. A ballroom filled with hundreds of elegantly primped and pampered people, their objective to see or be seen lends itself to scandal and intrigue as does a dawn appointment with two terrified men walking onto a mist shrouded field unsure if they will leave alive. Correspondence was by letter or word of mouth. Imagine a note placed in the wrong hands and the damage that could do. One wrong word and a young lady’s reputation could be in tatters.
Society had rules of etiquette for pretty much everything and I would have been disgraced and hounded out of London at my first ball for breaking at least a dozen of them! Can you imagine trying to remember to let men always walk up the stairs before you and never wear pearls in the morning? Who wrote this stuff?
So many wonderful writers have told amazing stories yet there is so much more to create!
So now you know why I write it — why do you read historical romance? Comment below for a chance to win THE RELUCTANT COUNTESS.
